Talk title: Next Generation Optical Access Seamless Evolution

Abstract: The European Commission seventh Framework Programme supports the next generation Optical Access Seamless Evolution (OASE), a project started this year and developing migration path and technology from today's access to feed needs of broadband society in 2020.

From technical point of view there are following challenges:

The following presentation gives an insight into first results of OASE project with an outlook towards realistic future services, ordinary in Year 2020 society. Based on latest technologies in optical semiconductors on shared media, tuneable receivers and transmitters could be a valid option beside Point-to-Point direct fibre with low cost active and passive network elements. Universal in-house and outside-plant network elements could provide a migration path of existing technologies towards fibre based access.

Finally the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) must be considered for all stakeholders including also the subscriber.
